Tario MCP: query accounting from an external assistant with company permissions

What an MCP connector can read, how company scope works, and why the external assistant's data policy matters too.

Copying a report into an external chat feels quick until figures change. Yesterday's workbook excludes today's collections and a conversation can mix legal entities. MCP lets an AI client call Tario tools when information is needed. Questions no longer depend solely on exported files, although results still need company, period, and scope checks.

What the connection can read

Tario MCP is available on paid plans and provides reading tools for finance, banking, directories, Hacienda, inventory, and help. Documentation lists cash, statements, aging, revenue, expenses, calculated taxes, and inventory movements. The current list comes from the server itself. Inspect it during onboarding to establish which questions this access can answer.

Issuing invoices, recording payments, and changing stock are outside that reading catalog. In-app flows preparing changes retain their review and approval processes. A recommendation to collect an invoice or buy goods remains a proposal. The conversation does not execute the decision or turn an analytical statement into financial authorization.

Company and permissions come first

A connector operates within its authorized company and user permissions. Web connector OAuth grants are tied to the chosen entity. Other clients use the authentication and company context described in the technical guide. Configure access with an attributable identity and verify removal when the person's responsibilities change.

An accounting firm may serve companies with identically named suppliers. Confirm the authorized entity and readable areas. A reporting user does not need every operating permission. Test both an allowed query and an out-of-scope query. That pair demonstrates access control better than testing only an administrator account.

Questions that replace repetitive exports

Begin with a known figure: show receivables aging at a specified cutoff and identify the largest customer balances. Compare income and expenses for two complete periods. For inventory, request one item's movements and locations. Check the source before using an answer for credit approval, purchasing, or management reporting.

Distinguish cash position from period movements, and billing from collection. Keep colones and dollars separate until conversion evidence exists. A connection reduces manual information transport while question precision still determines whether the returned data supports the decision. Ask for a breakdown when a summary does not explain its basis.

The external service receives data too

Zero retention for Tario's integrated AI concerns requests Tario sends to its model providers. When another company's assistant connects through MCP, retrieved data reaches that client too. Review its terms, retention, and controls independently. A reading authorization does not extend Tario's policy automatically to an external service you select.

Limit queries to what is needed. Portfolio analysis can begin with totals and age bands before individual documents. Remove access when someone stops serving an entity and verify the result. Avoid sharing credentials in messages or screenshots. The business owner should know which integrations are active and the jobs they support.

A verifiable onboarding process

  • Confirm a compatible plan and appropriate permissions.
  • Select the company during documented authorization.
  • Request a known figure with explicit date and currency.
  • Compare the answer with the original Tario report.
  • Test access limits and record how to revoke the connection.

The REST API and MCP are different channels. The API supports other authenticated operations under its own rules; not all are exposed as assistant tools. Documentation separates authentication, OAuth, webhooks, and MCP for this reason. Ask any supplier proposing automated writing to identify the channel, required access, and review behind that action.

Test MCP with a question that currently requires exporting, uploading, and explaining the same workbook again. Record the answer, supporting report, and validation effort. That exercise shows whether it helps the team. A useful current answer remains traceable to the right company and the documents behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Can MCP issue invoices?

Documented tools are read-only. Writes use authorized Tario flows or the appropriate API.

Is MCP included in the free plan?

It is available on paid plans. Check current documentation and pricing.

Does zero retention cover an external client?

Not automatically. The connected client has its own conditions for the information it receives.
