Reconcile bank movements with invoices and bills
In Banking → Reconciliation you decide what each statement line is: the payment of an invoice or bill, an existing transaction, a ledger category or a line with no document; then you commit and complete the formal reconciliation.
If you are not signed in, Tario asks you to log in and opens your current company.
Steps
In Banking → Reconciliation pick an import from the Import queue. The Bank lines show Date, Description, Amount, Decision, Match and Confidence (0-100%), with the status Confident, Low confidence, Multiple matches, Transfer or No match.
Select a line to see the Focused line. Under Link to a bill or invoice Tario lists the open documents ranked by match (amount, date and name), with the best one preselected; confirm with Link this document.
Every line arrives with a suggestion, in this order: a matching invoice, bill or transaction; a merchant rule; a transfer between your accounts; or, when none applies, an AI-proposed category (Suggested by AI) with the ledger account, counterparty, confidence and reason. Accept it with Accept suggestion.
When you accept or change the account of a merchant's movement, Remember for similar movements comes checked: it creates a merchant rule so future statements resolve it on their own, without AI.
In Settings → Automation → Reconciliation you decide what Tario accepts on its own: Automatically accept high-confidence matches (on: exact matches, transfers and rules from the threshold) and Also high-confidence AI suggestions (off by default). Accepting does not post: Commit import is always your click, with the journal preview.
You can also choose manually with Assign invoice, Assign bill or Assign transaction, or, for a charge or income with no document, choose the ledger account and use Categorize. No associated document leaves it out without recording anything.
To decide several at once, select them and use Accept confident (only confident matches), Reject AI matches, Mark no document or Categorize selected.
If the statement is missing a movement, use Add missing line with Posted at, Type (Debit or Credit), Amount and Description.
When every line has a decision and the balance matches, the import becomes Ready to commit: use Commit import. Linked payments are recorded once, at that moment.
To close the month use Complete reconciliation: Tario keeps the book balance, the statement balance, the cleared items and the Final difference as an auditable record.
Tips
- You can ask Tario AI (Ctrl/⌘+J) "Which bank movements pay open invoices?" or "Link yesterday's deposit to invoice 1050": it proposes a Link payment · awaiting your approval card and records nothing until you approve it.
- Lines that match a merchant rule arrive categorized with the Merchant memory method; review them anyway before committing.
Common errors
| Code or message | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
Needs review before commit | There are pending lines, parsing failed or there is a balance gap that has not been accepted. | Check the validation panel: decide the pending lines, accept the gap with a reason or retry parsing. |
No selected line has a confident match. | You used Accept confident, but the selected lines only have low-confidence, multiple or no matches. | Open each line and pick the document with Link this document or Assign invoice / Assign bill, or categorize it. |
